Small Groups


Laura and Barry Sykes (leaders)

This newly formed home-based group of mixed-age adults meets weekly in western Flower Mound for a variety of studies focusing on spiritual disciplines. Current study is Adam Hamilton’s When Christians Get It Wrong. Participants enjoy video-based studies and decide on future studies as a group.

Christian Dedication

This Bible study group looks through the eyes of John Wesley, taking scripture and discussing real-life application of what is read in the Word. The group uses a quarterly Bible study from Cokesbury. The fall series focuses on Covenants with God.

Classic Women

This group of women age 50 and older celebrate and support each other through Christian fellowship, local mission projects and fun. Every January, a new calendar is set and local mission projects are selected. Activities include guest speakers, special luncheons during the year, local mission projects, and visits to places of interest to the group.

Companions in Christ: The Way of Grace

This 10-week spiritual journey invites participants to travel with biblical characters who discover God’s grace through their encounters with Jesus. More than a survey of biblical stories, it is a transforming interaction with the events and characters from the Gospel of John. The format introduces a weekly article to read, followed by daily exercises. The group will meet on Sundays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to share insights. Book cost is $12.

HeartPaths Spiritual Program

HeartPaths DFW will begin a new nine-month program at Vista Ridge UMC this fall for those who want to deepen their spiritual direction and spiritual leadership. HeartPaths welcomes those who desire a growing closeness with God in daily life through prayer. VRUMC is one of four DFW locations. For more information or to complete an application, visit

Into the Word

This inter-generational class focuses on a book from the Bible and discusses its meaning both within the biblical context and in contemporary life. The group continues the Gospel of Luke this fall. There is no advance preparation, as participants read the scripture together, followed by the asking of questions and listening to each others’ comments and interpretations.

Men’s Softball Team

Pit Stop

This group, which formed this summer, continues to meet Sunday mornings to discuss issues for Christian development. Participants enjoy video-based studies that apply Christian scripture to real life. A new study—Half Truths by Adam Hamilton—will begin September 10. The DVD study and discussion time will focus on five popular phrases, including “everything happens for a reason” and other things the Bible doesn’t say.

Sisters in Christ

This mid-week women’s group will begin a new study, Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break by Kelly Minter, on September 6. It includes video sessions and real-life ways to put feet to your faith as it focuses on Nehemiah leaving the comfort of his Persian palace to help those in need. Book cost is $15 or a digital copy is available. Each week, the group wraps up their study with lunch and fellowship at a local restaurant.

To Seek and Save: The Gospel of Luke

This nine-week study will give participants a unique opportunity to participate in a class with the author to discuss the book. The first class will start with an introduction, followed by the discussion of three chapters a week for the remaining eight weeks. The group will be seeking what message the Holy Spirit is conveying through Luke in his gospel to us today. Book cost is $15 or a digital copy is available.

Women’s Fellowship Social

The women of the church meet every other month for a social event, which has included crafts, eating out, painting, journaling, cake decorating, tea and chocolate tasting, and bunco. Indicate your interest to receive email notices about future gatherings.

Word of God Bible Study

This small group chooses a word from scripture and looks at both Old and New Testament usages. Interested persons can email Barbara Sepdham at [email protected] for a list of the scriptures. The only thing needed is your favorite Bible, as the group loves to hear different translations.

Young Adults Gathering

This small group has moved its meeting time to Sunday mornings for Bible study. A new study will be selected for the fall. Anyone interested is invited to attend. In addition to Sunday mornings, the group will gather monthly for a social activity.
